Why the hate on homage pieces?
With collectors, there is a definite negative opinion towards homage timepieces. There are all kinds of homage or look alike pieces in the watch world, and each have their own different characteristics, but do look very similar to models that are produced by Swiss made brands.

First, what is the exact definition of homage? The definition of homage is a special honour or to show respect publicly. A vast majority of micro brand watch companies do pay homage to some high end Swiss timepieces, but there is a large misconception that a majority of homage pieces are only manufactured in China and are mass produced. In a lot of instances, this is NOT the case.
There are several reputable micro brands that produce homage pieces (Steinhart, Acquatico, Squale, Invicta, Alpha, and others) and get inspiration from high end watch brands, put their own twist on it, and gives a collector that doesn't have the funds for the expensive version a taste of what its like to own that piece. There are also brands that do take some small inspiration from Swiss brands, but completely make their own new piece, and a lot of the time, they turn out to be stunning. There are also very high end Swiss made homage pieces, Steinhart being one of them.

When comments about collectors are made that "If you wear a homage piece, you aren't a real collector.", that is the farthest from true. If you wear your pieces, if you love your pieces, if you take pride in what's on your wrist, you are a collector. People who say otherwise are completely wrong, and should take a step back and look at the true meaning of being a collector and what horology is all about. There are extremely beautiful homage pieces that are available for all collectors, and from the experiences of other collectors, an homage piece can be enjoyed just as much as their highly priced counterparts. The watch world is a big one, and there is always room for an homage piece in any collection. Be proud of any watch you own.
